Folk Icons Eric Bogle and Irish Nightingale Eleanor McEvoy head a Stellar Lineup of Local, Australian and International Artists at this year’s 33rd Illawarra Folk Festival held at Slacky Flat Bulli over 4 days- (18th-21st January 2018).
With 150 acts, 10 venues and 500 concerts the Festival is the largest Folk Event in the State. It still however maintains its laid back informal atmosphere with lots of participation in the poetry, music and dance sessions, youth concerts, blackboards, singing and Yarn Spinning. A full programme for the kids makes it family friendly while the festival is preceded by two days of Folk School where participants can pick up on the rudiments of musicianship and stagecraft.
And if you want to leave the car at home Saturday and Sunday sees two ‘Music Trains’ travel down from Sydney with musicians joining them at Waterfall for the trip to Bulli.
Everyone is a ‘big name’ but it is worth mentioning; Breaking Trad (Ireland),, Kevin Welch (USA), Oi Dipnoi (Italy), The Beez (Germany), The Balkan Elvis (Mikelangelo), Cass Eager, Darren Coggan, Taiko no Wa, and The Go Set. Be prepared to be spoiled for choice.
Lots of exotic food stalls to look after the inner person.
