Galleries and Theatres in the Hunter Region
Whats on at the Galleries this month
Cessnock Regional Art Gallery February Exhibition Artworks by Wollombi artist Hadyn Wilson. Hadyn is fascinated by landscape and changes in landscape over time – in fact eons. His research has led him to uncover a large number of plants that have become extinct - disappeared from view except through fossil records. He has speculated about the landscape that they once inhabited and the resulting paintings and innovative pieces in cut paper explore a place lost in deep time. Most of these plants were once local to the Hunter region and the exhibition has a particular resonance here. Hadyn offers us a glimpse of a lost time and place, sometimes mysterious, always fascinating, and perhaps suggest that we ponder our future in the face of the contradictory arguments regarding climate change and the potential loss of further plant and animal species in the near future. Hadyn exhibits regularly through Brenda May Gallery in Dank Street Sydney and has had a previous survey at Manly Art Gallery and Museum in 2007. The exhibition represents a survey of Hadyn’s work over the past several years and also marks the completion of his studies towards his Doctor of Philosophy. Exhibition floortalks will be held on Sunday 14th February and Sunday 28th February at 2pm. The gallery is open Tuesday - Friday between 10 am and 5pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4pm.
