This wine has also been listed in the Top 100 Wines of the Competition. Congratulations Coolangatta Estate!
The Judges’ comments on this wine were:
A lovely toasty Semillon nose. It has length and weight on the palate. A lovely aged character coming through with hints of marmalade and orange zest. The fish worked well with the aged Semillon. They married in well together.
A wine that’s driven by its bright line of acid with notes of mineral lovely intensity and some attractive mature toasty notes. The palate is filling out. It’s a really nice example of a maturing Semillon with good purity.
A fantastic colour of pale straw with green hints. A wonderfully complex nose of toast and lanolin with hints of green pea. Remarkably complex with precision and length of flavour. A stunning match with seafood.
A deeper colour suggestive of age. On the nose toast honey and lemon pith. On the palate it was slightly dilute but had that beautiful aged Semillon character of honey toast and white flower with an unripe apricot character. It was a very good match with the food.
A toasted honeyed nose. Nice freshness. Long and lingering flavours. Quite lean with the dish. The firmness on the palate is amplified.
Earthy and dusty on the nose. A little rustic. A little flat on the palate. A little too oxidised this kind of character. Soft acidity and it faded with the match.
